THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Electricity Workers Federation (KEWF) has alleged that the State Government’s hasty move to convert the Kerala State Electricity Board into a company would hamper the interests of the consumers and the employees alike.Addressing mediapersons here on Saturday, Federation office-bearers said that intense agitations would be launched against the government move.“A ‘samrakshana valayam’ would be formed at the Board headquarters here on May 30 as a prelude to the protest programmes,” they said. They said the V K Shunglu Committee assigned by the Planning Commission had found that the states which converted their power utility into companies couldn’t achieve the expected benefits. The Federation also urged the government to operate the thermal power projects to their full capacity. Though the projects in the state have a combined capacity to generate 771.6 MW, only 300 MW is generated now. Federation president A N Rajan, state secretary B H Ani and district secretary S Vinod attended the press meet.
