Intelligence failure can be a threat to KKNPP

TIRUNELVELI: “Koodankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP) is facing threat due to the failure of intelligence agencies in India that has been proved yet again in the recent bomb blast at the Delhi High Court on September 7,” said activists from People’s Movement Against Nuclear Energy on Friday.Speaking to the media in Tirunelveli, they said that the Centre has consistently failed in handling intelligence reports and security preparations and thus, in case of security to nuclear plants, it would result in a catastrophe.S P Udayakumar, an activist, stated that Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Mullappally Ramachandran, in a recent statement, had said that “the atomic establishments continue to remain prime targets of terrorist groups and outfits.”“People are agitating against the KKNPP in a non-violent way, but the authorities have slapped case under section 107 of CrPc (disturbing the peace) against as many as 30 people,” alleged M Pushparayan, another activist, showing the copies of summons.He also demanded that all cases foisted against the people should be withdrawn and added that constitutional right to protest should be respected.Quoting the Express report, which revealed that fishing ban was already in place near KKNPP, the activists said that security forces have been preventing local fishermen.Pushparayan said that the state government in demand for grants for the Fisheries Department should note this issue that is affecting the fishing community.Activists also alleged that the authorities were involved in aiding and abetting anti-social elements to print anonymous handbills about individual anti-nuclear activists.“Authorities should stop misleading, confusing and harassing the people with regard to the KKNPP issue,” they added.It may be noted that to protest against KKNPP, a massive hunger strike has been organized at Idinthakarai in the district on Sunday.
