HYDERABAD: IAS officer Y Srilakshmi, suspended after her arrest by the CBI in the Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) illegal mining case, will spend the coming few days in the barracks of the central prison for women at Chanchalguda along with 10 other inmates. She would be treated on par with the other inmates while her petition for 'special prisoner' status is still to be heard by the court. After magistrage Naga Maruthi Sharma reserved his verdict on her bail plea for Friday, CBI sleuths brought Srilakshmi to Chanchalguda at around 4.45 pm, escorted by two women constables. Within a couple of minutes, the formalities were completed and a visibly shaken Srilakshmi got down from the CBI vehicle and walked slowly into the prison. A prison official said she seemed depressed and tired.
Srilakshmi's admission number is 4322. After completing the necessary formalities she was straightaway taken to the barracks no 9 where she may spend the next few days if the court rejects her bail plea.Prison officials said Srilakshmi would have to sleep on the floor with just a blanket keeping out the cold and mosquitoes.

Officials, however, claimed that prison environs for women are far better than for men, which are cramped. "Our women's barracks are spacious and maintained well,'' said the prison official.

A doctor will be on call in case of any medical emergency. The prison hospital has one doctor and a staff nurse. "If the doctor feels that a personer has to be given treatment that is not available in the prison, then she will be shifted to a hospital,'' the officer said.
