In Bengal's Tufanganj, Woman Bitten By Snake Hiding Inside Vegetable Bag
Instead of panicking, the woman immediately closed the bag. Upon close inspection of the bite, it was found that she had been bitten by a snake.

Recently, a woman in West Bengal was doing the household chores and then decided to take out vegetables from the bag. However, the simple act of picking vegetables turned out to be a nightmare for her as right after putting her hand in the bag, she felt a bite. However, it was her quick thinking that probably saved her life.

In a recent case in Tufanganj, West Bengal, a woman had bought vegetables and placed the bag in the kitchen. Later, when she went to take out potatoes and onions from the bag, she suddenly experienced a painful bite on her hand. Instead of panicking, she immediately closed the bag. Upon close inspection of the bite, it was found that she had been bitten by a snake. Without any further delay, her family rushed her to Cooch Behar MJN Medical College and Hospital.

As per the woman’s family, they could not understand what had exactly bit her since the vegetable bag was closed. Later, when the snake rescuers were called, they came and identified the snake to be venomous. Since the woman had closed the bag trapping the snake inside, it became easy to identify the kind and proceed with a relevant treatment plan for the bite wound.

Hospital authorities later shared the the guidelines of World Health Organization (WHO), that a treatment for snakebit must begin within 100 minutes to ensure that the patient’s life can be saved. As per reports, the woman is safe and recovering now.

This is not the first bizarre snake bite-related incident. Previously, a labourer in Bihar, Santosh Lohar, working on the railway line project in Rajauli was sleeping when a venomous snake bit him. Instead of rushing for medical aid or raising an alarm, the man decided to be vengeful and bit the snake not once or twice, but thrice, which led to its death. When asked about his strange reaction, he shared that in his village it is believed that if a snake bites a person, the person must bite it back twice to neutralise the venom.
