BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha Green Card Holder Women’s Association (OGHWA) called off their agitation after assurance from the State Government that their demands would be discussed in the ongoing Assembly session. Around 200 members of the OGHWA had called for an agitation as their demands were not being fulfilled by the State Government. According to one of the association members, the members had sought a meeting with Health Minister Prasanna Acharya to discuss their grievances. But the Minister was not available. Their demands include land for the homeless green card holders, financial assistance for the unemployed among them, reservation for their children and 40 per cent discount on railways and bus tickets. There was a scuffle between the agitators and the police on Thursday morning. The scuffle ensued when the agitators blocked the road near the Station Square alleging negligence by the government authorities. They called off their agitation following an assurance from the Government side that their demands would be discussed in the ongoing Assembly session. The agitation formally ended after the intervention of MP Braja Kishore Tripathy, who assured them on behalf of the Government that their demands would be given due consideration. Even though the association members called off their agitation, they threatened to resume it if their demands were not fulfilled during the current Assembly session.
