HYDERABAD: One more child labourer, who worked as a domestic help, was rescued by the Labour department officials on Wednesday. Officials rescued Manjula, a native of Mahaboobnagar from a government employee’s house at Moosarambagh. Labour officials have rescued around 20 child labourers working in business establishments and houses of government employees and business bigwigs during the special drive in the twin cities in the last week. S Naresh Kumar, deputy commissioner of Labour-1, Hyderabad said they rescued Manjula from the house of one Madhusudhan Reddy, a junior lecturer working in a government college. The house owner claimed they had hired Manjula for domestic work after verifying her age. “We shifted the girl to a hostel as she is willing to pursue her studies and a medical examination will be conducted to know her age,” he added. Naresh Kumar said Manjula’s step mother brought her to the city four years back and put her into work at the junior lecturer’s house. “We booked cases on Madhusudhan under the Child Labour Act and will take necessary steps,’’ he added. At least 10,000 child labourers are working in different outlets in the city. “We have shifted the rescued children to rehabilitation centres where they will be provided education and boarding,” Naresh Kumar said.
