Maharashtra: Police busted a prostitution racket after conducting raids at various places in Arni town in the district and arrested four persons, an official said on Saturday.
The sleuths of crime branch conducted raids last evening and took 20 sex workers into custody but later released them on bail. According to the police Inspector, LCB, Sanjay Pujalwar, "When we raided the dens, one of its owners and her pimp fled from the area and are now at large."
The arrested persons are identified as Sunil Gaikwad (27), one of the racketeers, Kunal Manwar (19), Manoj Rathod (24) and Subhash Madavi (47). They were produced before magistrate on Saturday and were remanded in police custody till February 17.
According to reports, girls from West Bengal, Tripura and Mizoram were brought to Arni under the pretext of providing them employment but pushed into flesh trade.
Meanwhile, crime branch personnel arrested 13 persons for gambling and collected unaccounted money and other valuables.
"LCB sleuths raided three dens in Pandharkawda on Friday night and arrested 13 gamblers and also seized cash and costly articles used for the gambling from the spot," Pujalwar said, adding that all the arrested persons were granted bail.
