Family attacked, four injured

NEDUMANGAD: Four members of a family were injured when a group of assailants stormed their house and attacked them with weapons. The incident occurred at Mulamukku, near here, on Monday at 9 pm when an armed gang led by their neighbour Maniyan stormed the house and attacked Selvaraj, his wife Lathika and their children, Shibin Raj and Shijin Raj, with swords and iron rods. According to police, the incident was in retaliation to a heated argument between Maniyan and Selvaraj. Shijin Raj, the younger boy and Maniyan had a verbal duel after the former who was riding a motor cycle splashed mud water on Maniyan. The agitated neighbour came to the boy’s house to register his protest with Selvaraj. The normal talk hot up and finally slipped into a verbal duel. Maniyan left the house in anger and after a couple of minutes returned with his four other friends Suku, Rajeev, Kumar and Mahesh and attacked the family. The injured Lathika was shifted to Nedumangad Taluk hospital while the others, who had received deep wounds, were rushed to the Medical College Hospital. Nedumangad police had registered a case in this regard and are on the hunt for the culprits.
