CHENNAI: A former Indian Air Force (IAF) man has alleged that he and his family members were abused and assaulted by a sub-inspector at Adyar on Sunday. An FIR was registered at the Shastri Nagar police station against the SI, who filed a counter-complaint.Sporting bandages on his face, M Chandrasekharan, formerly of the IAF, arrived at the police commissioner’s office with his wife C Lakshmi to submit a petition to the CoP.Talking to reporters, he alleged that he and his family members were returning by car to their house in Venkateswara Nagar, Adyar, after visiting his sister at Perambur on Sunday night. He said his sons C Damodaran and C Balaji were in the car.On crossing Thiru Vi Ka Bridge in Adyar, they saw a man riding a two-wheeler (TN 07 BC5163), with a woman in the pillion. While overtaking them, the man got down from his two-wheeler and abused Damodaran, who was at the wheel, for honking. The biker claimed he was a cop and threatened them with dire straits. Later they found out that he was sub-inspector Shankar.“When my wife and I got down and asked him why he was creating the ruckus, he assaulted her,” Chandrasekharan alleged. “And when I questioned him whether as a policeman it was proper on his part to raise his hand against a woman, he hit me and my sons.”Meanwhile, the former IAF man said, the SI’s wife spoke to somebody over the phone and soon five men arrived on the scene. “One of them punched me on my face and mouth and I started bleeding,” he claimed. “A policeman Amar, who was on patrol duty, also joined them.”Chandrasekharan said he fell unconscious and his wife admitted him and their sons in a nearby private hospital where doctors stitched his wounds. He said he had attached the medical certificates along with his complaint to the Commissioner of Police and demanded action against the sub-inspector, the patrol cop and others.
