HYDERABAD: An assistant engineer of Genco committed suicide by jumping into the Gandipet lake allegedly due to disputes with his fiancee. The fiancee suspected that he was having affairs with other women and used to question him over the same. Sridhar Babu (32) was stationed at Paloncha in Khammam district. He jumped into the lake on Thursday but his suicide came to light only on Sunday when his body was fished out. Sridhar's family members reside at Hyderguda in Rajendranagar.According to Narsingi police, Sridhar Babu fell in love with a woman from SR Nagar and both families also agreed to perform their marriage. However, the woman started to suspect that Sridhar was having affairs with other women and the duo were having differences since then.Sridhar used to come frequently to the city and stay at his sister's house at Somajiguda. He also reportedly tried hard to convince his fiancee and sort out their differences."The family members of the couple met last Thursday at Sridhar's sister's residence and asked the duo not to talk or meet each other for two months so that the differences between them might ease out," Narsingi sub-inspector of police R Balu said. After the deliberations, Sridhar left the house and was not in touch with anyone since then. Though the family members tried to contact him over mobile phone, they found it to be switched off and suspected he might have gone back to Paloncha.Meanwhile on Friday, Narsingi police found an abandoned Hero Honda bike on the banks of the lake and seized it. "As it had a registration number of Rajasthan, we could not trace its owner immediately," the SI said.Police also found a mobile phone on the lake bund but could not get any information out of it as it got soaked due to rains that lashed the area on the day.On Sunday morning around 9 a.m., a water works employee B Anjaneyulu found a body floating in the water and alerted the police. Police found a suicide note written in English and wrapped in a polythene cover inside the deceased's pocket. The note read, "No one is responsible for my death. I am ending my life so that every one would be happy. I know committing suicide is against law as per section 309 of IPC." Sridhar had tied both his legs with his shoe laces before jumping into the lake.He had also written the name and mobile phone number of his fiancee on the note and asked the police to inform her about his death. With the help of the number, police established the identity of the body. A case under section 174 (suspicious death) was registered and investigation is on.
