Double suicide attempt

CHENNAI: In a double suicide bid, a house owner from Nehru Nagar in Guindy attempted to hang herself fearing police action after the tenant against whom she filed a complaint sought to take the extreme step.M Krishnaveni (38), a resident of Nedunchezian Street, Nehru Nagar, approached the Guindy police, seeking their help in vacating her tenant Kalpana. Piqued by this, Kalpana tried to kill herself by consuming sleeping pills on Sunday. Police said Krishnaveni asked Kalpana to vacate the house six months ago. Kalpana’s husband Raj Kumar, who came out of the jail recently had quarrelled with his wife and, unable to bear the nuisance, Krishnaveni trespassed into her tenant’s house and threw a few utensils away. She also lodged a complaint with police.Hence, Kalpana consumed sleeping pills and was taken to Government General Hospital. Fearing police action, Krishnaveni tried to commit suicide by hanging herself at her house when a few neighbours came to her rescue and admitted her to Government General Hospital. Both women are recovering. However, no case has been registered, the police said.
