Custodial torture: SHRC registers case

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: State Human Rights Commission chairman Justice J B Koshy on Wednesday registered a suo motu case with regard to the alleged custodial torture of a 21-year-old youth Sajeevan at Palakkad Town South Police. Sajeevan was taken into custody by the police team led by the Deputy Superintendent of Police on charges of causing nuisance to a girl by frequently calling her on mobile phone on October 7. But, the police did not register his arrest and allegedly manhandled him that resulted  in him being admitted to a hospital with serious injuries.  Justice J B Koshy also directed Palakkad District Collector and Director-General of Police to conduct a probe and submit the report within three weeks.
