KOZHIKODE: The discussion on the political resolution and review report presented at the 20th party congress of the CPM on Thursday witnessed vehement criticism by the West Bengal comrades of the leadership’s failure. While the review report found fault with the leadership for its disconnect with the common man and people’s issues, it also blamed the leaders’ nexus with real estate mafia. The insolence of the party bureaucracy in West Bengal led to total disaster for the party. The leadership could not pay attention to the demands of the poor people, the report said.Countering these charges, the delegates criticised the failure of the central leadership in guiding the party in the right direction. However, while briefing the media Prakash Karat denied reports that West Bengal comrades had called for his resignation from the general secretary’s post. “I am not aware of the Bengal leaders saying about fixing responsibility for the mistakes committed. Now it is for the all-India party congress to look into such things,” Karat said. “We have made a critical assessment of the work we have done in the past four years since the 19th party congress,” the CPM leader clarified.
