After the UDf and the BJP, it is the turn of the CPM and the CPI leaders to visit Nelliampathy as ‘separate delegations’ to study the problem of leased estates and the violations of the agreements committed by these estates.
CPM politburo member M A Baby, CPM state secretariat members and MLAs A K Balan and Elamaram Kareem, who belong to the official faction, will visit the place on Thursday.
Earlier, there were reports that Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan, who is undergoing ayurveda treatment, would visit the place soon. The sudden decision to visit the place by the members of the official faction seems to be a pre-emptive move. It was on Tuesday that CPM district secretary C K Rajendran,0 along with MLAs M Chandran, M Hamza, K V Vijayadas, K S Saleekha and V Chenthamarakshan had visited the place.
The CPI has also planned a visit to Nelliampathy on the same day.
The CPI delegation consists of CPI national council member Sathyan Mokeri, state executive council member V Chamunni, state council members Vijayan Kunissery and Jose Baby and district secretary of the CPI K P Suresh Raj.
In the last LDF Government, the forest portfolio was handled by the CPI. The then Forest Minister Benoy Viswam has already spoken out his stand on the Nelliampathy issue.
