The 38th-ranked Jovanovski has yet to lose a set in the tournament. She'll face either top-seeded Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark or Monica Niculescu of Romania.
Also, Andrea Petkovic of Germany rallied past seventh-seeded Eugenie Bouchard of Canada 2-6, 7-5, 6-1 to reach the second round. Tereza Smitkova of the Czech Republic defeated Kristina Mladenovic of France 7-5, 6-1.
