Kolkata: A Bharatiya Janata Party delegation, led by the party's state president Rahul Sinha met the West Bengal governor KN Tripathi to apprise him about the political situation in Birbhum.
Earlier on Thursday, a three-member BJP fact finding team was stopped in Birbhum and arrested. The BJP team was in Birbhum to assess the recent clashes between BJP and TMC workers that left three people dead.
The members of the Bharatiya Janata Party's fact-finding team on the attacks on party leaders in Birbhum were on Thursday arrested and then released on bail. The team led by Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi was taken into custody just 4 km ahead of Birbhum as it tried to break barricades.
In the wake of increased attacks on BJP workers in West Bengal's Birbhum district, allegedly by TMC workers, a three-member fact-finding team of the BJP was visiting Birbhum to assess the situation. The team was set up by BJP President Amit Shah.
The police stopped the team due to prohibitory orders just ahead of Birbhum. After discussions, the BJP leaders including BJP WEst Bengal chief Rahul Sinha tried to break barricades to enter Birbhum, following which they were arrested.
Earlier this week, three people were killed when TMC and BJP supporters allegedly clashed in a village in Birbhum district.
The Siuri court on Friday severely reprimanded West Bengal Police and directed top brass of district police to remove the officer in charge of Parui PS Kartick Mohan Ghosh and suspend Investigation Officer in the Parui political clash case Dhrubajyoti Dutta for dereliction of duty.
The court referred the case to Calcutta High Court for further action, also directed the district police to set up a high-level inquiry committee headed by a DSP against the accused officers.
