Bhandara: The mother of three minor girls, who were raped and murdered in Maharashtra's Bhandara district in February, has threatened to return the compensation amount of Rs 10 lakh she received from the government and hit the streets in protest if police failed to arrest the culprits in the next two days.
The girls aged six, nine and 11 years went missing from their home on February 14 and their bodies were later found in a well in a field. It's been more than a fortnight the case came to the light but police have failed to make any arrests in the case. They claim to be clueless and are reportedly struggling to make headway in the investigation.
Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde on Friday violated the Section 228A of the IPC by revealing the names of the three rape victims during a debate in the Rajya Sabha.
All India Democratic Women's Association Vice President and Rajya Sabha member TN Seema on Saturday criticised Shinde for his "insensitivity" and questioned the "delay" shown by the Maharashtra Police in registering an FIR in the case. "Despite the police forming more than 15 teams and officers of the ranks of ADGP and IG being assigned to the case, the culprits are still to be arrested," she said.
She also asked the Maharashtra Chief Minister to speed up investigations to nab the culprits. Shinde had on Friday ordered a probe into how the names figured in the statement he made.
