With the January transfer window now open, transfer rumours have started floating and the latest burning topic seems to be surrounding Joshua Kimmich’s future. The German international has been a mainstay in Bayern Munich’s midfield in recent times but reports suggest that he could very well be heading to Premier League. A report published by the AS claims that the last two to join the bid for Kimmich are the bitter English rivals Manchester United and Liverpool. The report mentions that the two Premier League outfits will “not frown upon” tabling an offer this summer for Kimmich. AS claims that Kimmich’s situation at Bayern Munich has changed in recent times.
Joshua Kimmich had extended his contract with Bayern Munich three years back for four more seasons and did that while enjoying a good agreement with the then-CEO Oliver Kahn and director Hasan Salihamidzic. But now neither of them are associated with Bayern Munich and in a situation like this, rumours surrounding Kimmich’s departure have snowballed.
Joshua Kimmich remains a name of interest to multiple European sides. The AS article suggests that his future at Bayern Munich is not certain. The 28-year-old is understood to not have a representative and as per reports from the German press, he is planning to leave his future in the hands of an agent. Kimmich’s contract with the Bavarian giants is set to expire in 2025.
Signing Joshua Kimmich will not only offer Liverpool a stable option in the midfield but also the English club can use him as a right-back. This would give Liverpool a strong alternative in case the Reds want to deploy Trent Alexander-Arnold in the middle of the park.
Liverpool have had to deal with plenty of injury issues so far this season and their manager Jurgen Klopp will certainly be looking to bolster his side by roping in some new faces soon. Center-back Joel Matip’s ligament injury and left-back Andrew Robertson’s shoulder injury have caused some trouble for Liverpool. Left-back KonstantinosTsimikas has also been out of action with a broken collarbone. In a situation like this, Liverpool’s top priority will certainly be reinforcing their defensive unit.
Coming back to the on-filed developments, Liverpool are currently placed at the top of the Premier League points table. The Merseyside-based side are two points ahead of second-placed Aston Villa in the Premier League standings. In their next fixture, Liverpool will be up against Arsenal in the third round of the FA Cup on Sunday, January 7.
