Jasprit Bumrah on Thursday wreaked havoc at Wankhede Stadium as the Mumbai Indians pacer pocketed a five-wicket haul in the IPL 2024 fixture against Royal Challengers Bangalore. He returned stunning figures of 5 for 21 in fours overs, becoming only the third Indian fast bowler to pick two five-fers in the Indian Premier League (IPL) history.

Bumrah created a couple of hat-trick chances for himself but missing out on them didn’t bother him as he had done his job already. He trapped Mahipal Lomror with a toe-crushing Yorker and then dismissed Saurav Chauhan and Vijaykumar Vyshak on consecutive deliveries in the 19th over to end his dream spell.
Bumrah became the first bowler to take five wickets in an innings against RCB, bettering Ashish Nehra’s figures of 4-10 for CSK in 2015. The MI Pacer also surpassed the likes of Ravindra Jadeja, Sandeep Sharma and Sunil Narine, picking up 29 wickets against the Royal Challengers – the most by any bowler in the IPL history.

Disappointed with the last delivery
Bumrah could have made it to the top 10 best bowling figures in the IPL. But Dinesh Karthik shattered his plan, smashing a six off the last delivery of Bumrah’s spell.
“Disappointed with my last ball. When the first over was bowled, I realised the ball was gripping a bit. Wanted to bowl a good hard length. I’ve been doing this for 11 years, so I’m used to it. What happened at the end was dew set in and it got better to bat on? Don’t want to get too high or too low with good and bad days. This game is a great leveller. Want to keep working hard. The wicket did get better,” Bumrah told broadcasters after the first innings.
“DK played a special knock. Over here, it’s tough to stop someone when they get going,” he added.
