The Bangladeshi skipper, Najmul Hossain Shanto had a blunder of a DRS call during Day 1 of the first Test against Sri Lanka at Chattogram. The skipper looked to get the breakthrough to get rid of Kusal Mendis who was nearing his fifty.
During the 44th over in the first innings, Taijul Islam, their left-arm spinner, had pitched the fourth delivery at length which was defended by Mendis who came down the track. But for some odd reason, the team then were seen discussing whether the ball had hit the pads first.
Following the call to take the review, replays clearly showed that the ball had hit the middle of the bat which the third umpire saw and quickly indicated to the onfield umpire to maintain his onfield decision of not-out.

Mendis went on to score 93 runs in 150 deliveries. He was dismissed by the experienced Shakib al Hasan in the 72nd over. The spinner got the ball to turn away from the right-hander to get the edge which carried towards the slips who dived to his right to take the catch.

Bangladesh will look to re-evaluate their plans and start afresh tomorrow as they aim to clear out the batting unit and get as much time as possible to take the lead to put them in front of winning the Test. They will also look to keep a check on their fielding having dropped a couple of catches as well which hampered their attempts on the first day.

Sri Lanka on the other hand will look to keep the current pair of Dinesh Chandimal and Dhanajaya de Silva going and look to build a big partnership to help the side post a big first-innings score which will allow the bowling attack to go on the offensive and continue to dominate in the ongoing fixture.
