Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Ayodhya’s new airport and redeveloped railway station on December 30. He is also slated to hold a roadshow from the airport to the station.

This comes ahead of the inauguration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya on January 22.

AYODHYA AIRPORT

PHASE 1

Phase 1 of the state-of-the-art airport is developed at more than Rs 1450 crore. The airport’s terminal building with an area of 6500 sq. m is equipped to serve over 10 lakh passengers annually. It has a runway of 2,200 meters and capacity to park four aircraft.

The facade of the terminal building depicts the temple architecture of the Shri Ram Mandir of the holy city. The interiors of the terminal building are decorated with local art, paintings, and murals depicting the life of lord Shri Ram.

The terminal building of Ayodhya Airport consists of various sustainable features like an insulated roofing system, LED lighting, rainwater harvesting, landscaping with fountains, a water treatment plant, a sewage treatment plant, solar power plant, among others.

Such features have been provided to meet Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment (GRIHA) ratings. It is a rating tool that helps tourists assess the performance of a building against nationally acceptable benchmarks.

Apart from infrastructure, the airport will also improve connectivity, leading to a boost in tourism, business activities, and employment opportunities.

Meanwhile, to promote the city and list it as a top destination, Minister of Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia asked the leading airlines to start connecting Ayodhya with international destinations as well.

PHASE 2

The proposed phase-2 of the project will be much bigger. It will have a new terminal building with an area of 30,000 sq.m, which will be capable of serving a total of 3,200 passengers during peak hours.

The phase-2 will also see runway extension from 2,200 m to 3,125 m and Apron extension to park eight A-321-type aircraft.

“To meet the ever-increasing passenger traffic and demand in this region, it is proposed to construct a new Terminal building, Apron and Runway Extension to cater to the passengers’ convenience in future growth of Ayodhya Airport. Ayodhya has been regarded as the first one of the seven most important pilgrimage sites (Mokshdayini Sapt Puris) for Hindus. The Airport will serve as a Gateway for Hindu pilgrims,” says a Union Civil Aviation Ministry document accessed by News18.
