Jeep is all set to launch its much-anticipated entry level SUV Jeep Compass in India today. The compact SUV is locally produced in India at its Ranjangaon based facility near Pune. Jeep’s parent company Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has invested almost Rs 1800 crore in making this one in India. The Jeep Compass produced here will not only serve the Indian buyers, but will also be exported to all the right-hand drive countries from here. Hence, Jeep needs the Compass to succeed in India and everything will depend on the correct pricing of the SUV. The car manufacturer commenced the bookings for the same earlier this month. Here is all you need to know about the new Jeep Compass:-
The Jeep Compass will be offered with two powertrain options - a 1.4-litre 4-cylinder Multiar petrol engine that produces 160 bhp with peak torque of 250 Nm and 2.0-litre diesel engine that produces 173 bhp and 230 Nm torque. The engine will be paired with a 6- speed manual transmission and an optional 7-speed automatic gearbox version will be there for the petrol variant.
The Jeep Compass 4x4 will be equipped with Jeep Active Drive and Selec-Terrain Traction Management System. The SUV will come with a Driveline Disconnect Technology (DDT). True to its name, DDT disconnects the drive that goes to the rear wheels automatically when not required. This helps in fuel saving and assists safer driving.
Inside the cabin, the new Jeep Compass gets a 7.0-inch Uconnect infotainment system that's touch responsive. There is also integrated voice command and also supports for both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
From the safety perspective, the car gets 6 airbags, electric parking brake, all-speed, traction control system, electronic stability control, ABS with EBD, electronic roll mitigation, hill start assists and more. This is one SUV that has all the basic equipment that you need for being safe in a car in India.
Jeep Compass in India will be available in available in five trims – Sports, Longitude, Limited, Longitude(O), Limited (O) (top-of-the-line). Customers will have a choice of five colours Minimal Grey, Exotica Red, Hydro Blue, Vocal White and Hip Hop Black as well as options in 4x2 and 4x4. The SUV have seven-slot grille surround with chrome inserts that makes it stand apart from the crowd. There are Bi-Xenon high-intensity discharge headlamps and daytime running lamps on the Jeep Compass.
The Made-in-India Jeep Compass is being manufactured in 50 different trim, powertrain, transmission and colour combinations so Indian customers will have an extensive range of choice. In this segment the car will compete with the likes of Tata Hexa and Hyundai Tucson.
