Super Tuesday Scorecard: Donald Trump, Biden Move Closer to Rematch, Haley Upsets Ex-Boss in Vermont
Super Tuesday predictably showed that Joe Biden and Donald Trump are headed for a rematch come November.

Former US President Donald Trump and his rival and successor Joe Biden will most likely win the primaries from their respective parties and head to a rematch come November. The Republican Trump is yet to become his party’s presumptive nominee as several states are yet to vote but Tuesday’s results strongly signal that until his challenger Nikki Haley springs a surprise there is nothing stopping Trump from getting the GOP nomination.

Republican primaries

  • Donald Trump – Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Texas, Tennessee, Virginia
  • Nikki Haley – Vermont

Democratic primaries

  • Joe Biden – Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Texas, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, Virginia
  • Jason Palmer – American Samoa

Donald Trump won Texas, Alabama, California, Colorado, Maine, Oklahoma, Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Arkansas, Minnesota and Massachusetts. He started the day with a big delegate lead over Haley.

Super Tuesday is almost always the first Tuesday in March and voters in 16 different states and one territory have chosen who they want to run for president. Some states are also choosing who should run for governor or senator for their state, and some district attorneys, too.

Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Texas, Tennessee and Virginia chose Trump.

US President Joe Biden won the Democratic primaries in Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Texas, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont and Virginia and lost in American Samoa to an obscure candidate Jason Palmer.

“They call it Super Tuesday for a reason,” Trump told a raucous crowd. He went on to attack Biden over the US-Mexico border and the US withdrawal from Afghanistan, a report by the Associated Press said. The report also said that celebrations in Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate commenced as the results poured in.

There was also a victory party that featured hors d’oeuvres including empanadas and baked brie.

“November 5 … is going to go down as the single most important day in the history of our country,” Trump said, according to a report by The Hill.

Trump did not mention his Republican challenger Nikki Haley who is yet to bow out.

Vermont Surprise

Nikki Haley, the former South Carolina governor and US ambassador to the UN under the Trump administration, won the Vermont primary, ensuring that Trump will not win the necessary delegates on Tuesday to clinch his party’s nomination.

However, the report by The Hill highlighted that the real estate mogul will likely surpass the required delegate threshold no later than March 19 and be on the verge of becoming the presumptive nominee.

The surprise upset win in Vermont handed Nikki Haley her biggest win since the start of the Republican primary. She earlier won the GOP nominating contest in Washington, DC.
