A Florida woman has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of her boyfriend’s young daughter.
On June 17, emergency responders found 9-year-old Jamaria Sessions unresponsive at their home in Montverde, Florida. According to Fox News, she was pronounced dead shortly after their arrival, with her body showing signs of severe abuse, including cuts, burns, bruises, and bite marks.
Tyshael Elise Martin, 34, initially claimed she discovered Jamaria unresponsive while preparing for a family trip to California. However, police became suspicious after reviewing security footage from the home, which revealed Martin allegedly directing her Rottweiler to attack the child.
The video shows Martin encouraging the dog to maul Jamaria while she physically assaulted the girl, kicking and dragging her across the floor, according to Fox News. At one point, she is heard saying, “I’m fixin’ to kill her”.
Investigators found that Jamaria had a history of abuse, including being subjected to physical punishments and beatings. The medical examiner ruled her death a homicide caused by multiple blunt force injuries and thermal injury to her foot, indicating she had been burned with boiling water.
Martin was taken into custody on August 28 and is currently being held without bond in the Lake County Jail. The case has shocked the local community, with police describing it as one of the worst cases of child abuse they have encountered.
