Hezbollah militants were able to directly strike Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s, pictures shared by Israeli journalist Amit Segal and the militant group’s own admission show.
The photo was reshared on social media by Israeli news media outlet Jerusalem Post’s editor-in-chief Zvika Klein who citing sources said that it was an ‘assassination attempt’ on the Israeli PM.
The photo shared by Segal showed trees cut into half and a very small portion of the facade of the building blackened. The portion of the building struck also contained a part made of glass which had developed fine cracks, leading to a cloudy or white appearance, possibly from the impact of the drone.
Israeli military spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari at the time had said a drone “hit a building in Caesarea, while trying to hit the prime minister”.
Caesarea is about 20 kilometres (12 miles) south of the Haifa city area, which Hezbollah has regularly targeted.
BREAKING: Nearly half a week later, it's revealed that a Hezbollah drone struck Netanyahu's home in Caesarea, causing serious damage. Security sources confirm a direct hit, with some calling it an assassination attempt. Hezbollah also claimed responsibility Tuesday for the drone attack last week targeting the home of Netanyahu, and acknowledged that some of its fighters have been taken captive by the Israeli army.
Hezbollah spokesman Mohammed Afif made the remarks during a press conference in Beirut’s southern suburbs that was cut short following an Israeli evacuation warning for the area.
Hezbollah “declares its full, complete and exclusive responsibility for the Caesarea operation targeting… Netanyahu”, Afif said.
On Saturday, Netanyahu accused Hezbollah of attempting to assassinate him and his wife after a drone was launched towards his residence in the central town of Caesarea.
“The attempt by Iran’s proxy Hezbollah to assassinate me and my wife today was a grave mistake,” Netanyahu said in a statement.
“Anyone who tries to harm Israel’s citizens will pay a heavy price,” he said in comments directed at Tehran and “its proxies”, which include Lebanon’s Hezbollah, a group Israel has been at war with since late September.
