While online cab services have made our lives easier, sometimes they can be the cause of several on-the-road dangers. Recently, a woman was left stranded on the road as a Lyft driver abandoned her and took all her luggage. The incident took place as Shreya Verma, a Cambridge, Massachusetts, resident, was on her way to Logan International Airport for a flight to India. The woman is now begging for the restoration of her stolen possessions.

Shreya Verma’s problem started when she noticed she had forgotten to bring her headphones after her trip with Lyft had just started. She hurriedly recovered her headphones after asking the driver to turn back and wait. But upon her return, she discovered that the driver cancelled the ride and her possessions were gone. A report by NBC 10 Boston quoted her as saying, “I lost everything. Everything was in there.” The passenger lost two suitcases filled with valuables along with a bag in the backseat containing crucial documents like her passport, visa, and work authorization.

Moreover, despite contacting Lyft customer support, the woman is having difficulty obtaining information on the driver. Lyft informed her that she would need a subpoena to acquire the driver’s information. The victim said, “ Police can’t even begin investigating because they don’t have a license plate, driver details, nothing.” According to a Cambridge police spokesperson, the agency is working with the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office to obtain the necessary information. Police are also requesting anyone who has any information to come forward, and they are investigating whether the driver meant to steal the stuff.

Shreya Verma took to her LinkedIn handle to share about the unfortunate incident where her post was discovered by Lyft’s CEO, who swiftly apologised for the event. The unfortunate incident has prevented Shreya from reuniting with her family in India, especially at a crucial time when her father is battling cancer.

Many online users supported her and vented their anger on NBC 10 Boston’s social media page. One user wrote, This is devastating, and I hope the driver goes to jail!!! I feel for her!! And it’s not her fault,” while another said, “Lyft has the reputation to have the worst customer service ever. I always prefer uber over lyft.”

One individual remarked, “this is devastating. She lost her plane ticket too . She was robbed.what if she was assaulted or hurt , would you say the same thing!! The information of the driver should be in the system , why wasn’t the driver contacted right away! Infuriating.”

What's your reaction?
