People nowadays are eager to execute any bizarre activity to get famous online. Sometimes, they even tend to go overboard with their ventures putting their lives at risk. Be it performing death-defying stunts on a busy highway or trying to click pictures with a wild animal — we often come across such peculiar news and wonder, to what extent are people ready to go just for the sake of a few likes and comments. Walking along a similar vein, a video of a woman taking a selfie against the backdrop of an approaching tsunami wave has gone viral on social media, leaving the internet divided.

Dropped on X (formerly Twitter), the write-up accompanying the video read, “Taking a selfie with a tsunami is wild.” The clip captures the woman standing on a muddy grassland with a selfie stick in her hands. Two other men who were behind her could be seen running towards safety as a huge wave surged up in the nearby waterbody. However, before they could escape, the mud-laden wave washed them over, including the woman. She tripped on her feet and fell to the ground as the water splashed all over her.

Despite the tricky situation, the woman dared not to let go of the camera, continuing to record the incident on her selfie stick. Unafraid, she held onto the device and even gave out a little squeal as if enjoying the dangerous feat. With water all around her, it seemed that she might drown. The video ended abruptly with what appeared the other two men trying to pull her up. The location and timing of the event have not been discerned yet.

Social media users were quick to react to the video, with some opining that she did the right thing by not trying to outrun the waves, while others strongly disapproved of the feat. “This woman is just the wisest. She knows she can’t outrun it so she just lives the moment. And she saved the camera the whole time from drowning,” wrote one individual. “That’s insane! People nowadays go wild for capturing such moments!” criticised another. “Taking a selfie with a tsunami? That’s definitely making a big splash,” came a third sarcastic comment.

So far, the video has garnered over 2,79,000 views on the micro-blogging platform. What are your thoughts on this?
