Traffic jams on mountainous roads mean hours of delay and often present a huge nuisance for travellers. However, they say you can overcome even the biggest of challenges with the right attitude. Proving this right, a group of Gujarati tourists who were stranded in Uttarakhand owing to a landslide decided to make the most of their situation by breaking into an impromptu Garba performance. A video of the enthusiastic dance on a scenic road shared by an X user reportedly from the same journey has won the hearts of internet users. The video has clocked in nearly 80,000 views and tons of comments.
As per reports, a massive landslide occurred on the Dharchula-Tawaghat National Highway near Chaitalkot in Pithoragarh district, resulting from severe rainfall in Uttarakhand on September 15. As a result, several passengers who had left for the Char Dham Yatra were left stranded as the highway was closed for vehicles.
Viraj Gorasia, a passenger on the same journey captured and shared the video on X, showing a group dancing their way past the hold-up while on their trip to Gangotri. “Currently stuck somewhere in Uttarakhand due to some landslide & a random group of Gujjus thought playing Garba is the best that they can do,” read the caption.

Sharing further details of the performance, Viraj told Hindustan Times that when the police authorities informed the group that road clearance could take between 6 and 10 hours, they began looking for ways to pass the time. Garba seemed to be a good idea for a group of 30 to 40 Gujaratis who performed it for an hour. Later, Gujarati snacks such as “theplas and khakhras” were eaten as well.
The quirky video quickly gained the attention of users. A user wrote, “Navratri ki taiyari (Preparing for Navratri).”
