It is not a rare scene for food items to be sold at sky-high prices at airports. People, who have ever visited any eatery on an airport premises, might be well aware of this fact. A restaurant at the Mumbai airport has recently created a stir across the internet after a customer revealed the price of their masala dosa. In a video dropped by an Instagram user named Chef Don India, a digital menu card of the eatery was shown. In the clip, a plate of simple masala dosa along with buttermilk could be seen having a price tag of Rs 600. Customers are also allowed to take lassi or filter coffee as a beverage option but will have to shell out 20 rupees extra for these combos.

Apart from dosa, the restaurant also offers several other South Indian food items like idli and uttapam. For one Benne Khali dosa, the eatery charges Rs 640, while a plate of steamed idli is priced at Rs 530 and masala uttapam can be bought for Rs 620. In the video, a person was also seen preparing a masala dosa at the shop. Taking a dig at the inflated pricing, the user wrote in the caption of the video, “Gold cheaper than dosa at Mumbai Airport. Only 600 Rs.”

After the post surfaced on the internet, a number of users marked their reactions in the comment section, with the video garnering more than 9 million views and 1,90,000 likes on Instagram. Keeping aside the funny aspect of the post, several viewers expressed their discontent over higher rates of food items at airports.

Joking about the premium facilities at an airport lounge, a user commented, “Should file a case. Not only have the rich traveled in planes but the poor travel too thinking they will get free food there.” Another user shared his experience of having masala dosa at the Guwahati airport, drawing a comparison with the price in Mumbai. “I paid around 380 for a masala dosa and 275 (5 pieces) veg for momos at Guwahati airport,” the person noted.

“Actually in real silver’s rate is the same as this dosa,” quipped an individual. A user, however, shed light on the actual reasons behind the premium rates of the restaurants at airports, commenting, “Who says you are paying for only the food cost? You are paying for the operations cost, infrastructure cost, convenience cost, high rent, security cost, super high tax, utilities, high maintenance cost, the staff cost itself is high.”
