In This Tamil Nadu Village, Shoes And Slippers Are Banned. Know Why
According to reports, only the elderly or sick people walk wearing slippers in this village.

Do you know there is a village in India where shoes and slippers are banned and people walk barefoot on the road? Yes, it is true. Let’s know about this village and the reason behind the ban in detail in this article. This village is located in Tamil Nadu and the name of this village is Andaman. It is 450 kilometres away from Chennai. According to reports, about 130 families used to live in this village at that time. People were engaged in farming as well as labour work in the fields. According to reports, only the elderly or sick people walk wearing slippers in this village, otherwise no one else wears shoes. In the summer season, some people wear slippers to protect themselves from the scorching ground. Children also go to school without wearing shoes. People carry shoes and slippers in their hands, as if they are holding their purse or bag.

The reason behind this is that the villagers believe that a goddess named Muthyalamma protects their village. In March-April, the villagers worship the goddess and a festival is organised for 3 days.

In her honour, people don’t wear shoes and slippers. Just as people don’t enter a temple wearing shoes and slippers, they consider this village to be a temple and walk here without wearing anything on their feet. They have been carrying on with this practice for years by following their beliefs. Even if someone from another village arrives in this unique village, they are also informed about this practice. They are forced to abide by this if they don’t agree with this practice.

People of this village are also surviving in an age-old belief that whoever refuses to perform this practice will suffer from a mysterious fever that will spread in the village and kill everyone. For this reason too they refuse to wear shoes and walk barefoot wherever they go.
