Check Point Software Technologies Inc researchers discovered flaws in the instant messaging applications WhatsApp and Telegram which allowed them to seize control of accounts on these apps.
WhatsApp and Telegram have now corrected these problems which occurred due to inappropriate processing of some files that were potentially malicious.
The researchers were able to send malicious files in the form of an image to a user. Once the file was opened by the recipient, they were able to enter the user’s local storage which then gained them access to that
account. The malicious file could then be forwarded to the user’s contacts.
On the other hand, flaw found in Telegram had much less chances of taking place as it required the recipient to right-click on a video and open it in a new tab.
