Vijay Sethupathi SHUTS Down Reporter Over A Question About Hindi Imposition: 'We Never Said No To...'
Vijay Sethupathi addressed a question regarding Hindi Imposition during the 'Merry Christmas' pre-release event in Chennai.

Vijay Sethupathi is one of the finest actors in the country. From essaying a transgender woman in Super Deluxe to getting in the skin of Kali, the menacing villain of Jawan, Sethupathi has rightly proven his acting mettle time and again. Maintaining that trajectory, Vijay Sethupathi is all set to star in Sriram Raghavan’s Merry Christmas that will also feature Katrina Kaif. While promoting the same at an event in Chennai, Vijay Sethupathi addressed a question related to Hindi and the politics around it. The actor unapologetically exclaimed that Tamil Nadu never said ‘No’ to Hindi.

When a reporter posed a question laced with a statement that the politics of Tamil Nadu has opposed the Hindi language for 75 years, Vijay Sethupathi promptly replied, “Hindi, as a language, was never opposed.” To this, the reporter asked if one should learn the Hindi language. Vijay Sethupathi answered, “I remember you asking the same question to Aamir Khan. Why are you asking this question again and again? We never said no to Hindi. We are against the Hindi imposition. There’s a difference between both. People are learning Hindi here and no one is against that. Your question is wrong and is irrelevant. No one is stopping anyone from learning Hindi. Even PTR (Minister Thyagarajan) has given an explanation for this, please see that.”

Meanwhile, in a different interview with the entertainment portal Bollywood Hungama, Vijay Sethupathi had expressed being heartbroken after Super Deluxe wasn’t selected as India’s official entry for Oscars, “It was heartbreaking for us also. Politics, something happened. It was not because I starred in the film. Even if I was not in that film, I wanted that film to go there. Something happened in between and I don’t want to talk about it. It’s unnecessary,” he shared.

Vijay Sethupathi is one of the iconic actors in Indian cinema with many hits to his credit like Jawan and 96. In an illustrious career of more than a decade, Vijay Sethupathi has nailed all the roles, whether that of the protagonist or the antagonist. Now, there are reports that he might again essay the role of a villain in the film Thalaivar 171, starring Rajinikanth. Lokesh Kanagaraj will write and direct this movie. Vijay Sethupathi and Lokesh’s collaboration has worked brilliantly in films like Master and Vikram. If the reports of Vijay Sethupathi’s inclusion in Thalaivar 171 are true, it will be their third film together.
