Ilaiyaraaja's daughter Bhavatharini died on Thursday at the age of 47. She was reportedly battling cancer.

Ilaiyaraaja’s daughter Bhavatharini passed away on Thursday night, January 25. Although the family is yet to release a statement, reports claimed she was battling stage four liver cancer and had been receiving treatment for the same. She died in Sri Lanka. As fans mourned the 47-year-old singer’s demise, a few social media handle also revisited the time her brother, musician Yuvan Shankar Raja spoke about her influence on his career.

In a video going viral, Yuvan was seen addressing a gathering when he brought up Bhavatharini’s name. In Tamil, he said, “I didn’t know music, I had not learnt music. The first person to have taught me music was my sister. She held my hand and taught me to play the piano. She asked me to try my hand on it.” The video also featured the late Vijayakanth.

The clip has caught social media users’ attention, with many offering their love and support to Yuvan, Ilaiyaraaja and their family. “Life can be cruel sometimes, stay strong Yuvan,” a comment read.

As per a report by Hindustan Times, Bhavatharini travelled from India to Sri Lanka for treatment. Despite undergoing Ayurvedic therapy for five months, her health did not improve, and sadly, she passed away at 5:20 PM on Thursday. Her mortal remains is scheduled to be transported to Chennai today.

At the age of 47, she was a prominent figure in the film industry, contributing her voice to numerous popular songs in over 30 films. Her untimely death has sent shockwaves through the entire entertainment world.

Making her debut as a playback singer in the film “Rasayya,” she achieved recognition as the song from the movie became a massive hit. She continued to lend her voice to musical compositions created by her father and brothers, and she also collaborated with artists like Deva and Sirpi.
