Kolkata: The West Bengal government on Monday, sent to the Election Commission an inquiry report against state Finance Minister Asim Dasgupta, for his alleged violation of the EC model code of conduct.

Chief Secretary Samar Ghosh said the report prepared by state Finance Secretary C M Bachawat was passed-on to the EC on Monday, through the office of the state chief electoral officer.

Dasgupta, an important functionary in the Buddhadev Bhattacharjee cabinet, has been charged with signing several official files and even issuing instructions at his Writers' Buildings chamber even after the Election Commission's model

code of conduct came into force on March 1, 2011.

EC asked the state chief secretary on March 3, 2011 to inquire into the complaint, filed by Trinamool Congress leader Subrata Bakshi against Dasgupta's alleged breach of code of conduct and submit a report to it by on Monday.

Asked about the content of the report, the chief secretary refused to disclose it.

This was the first case of complaint against an important state minister after the model code of conduct came into force immediately with the announcement of the poll schedule on March 1, 2011.
