Kanshiram Nagar (UP): Slamming Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati for her reservations over the proposed Food Security Bill, Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said she had rejected it without giving it a proper thought.
"Like MNREGS, she has now rejected the Right to Food Bill within a day without giving it a proper thought saying it will not benefit anyone," he told an election meeting in Kanshiram Nagar.
"The measure (Bill) will ensure that no one remains hungry as every family will get 35 kg of foodgrains," the Congress leader said.
Opponents of the measure were asking from where the money would come from, Rahul said adding "we will show them from where it will come."
On Friday, BSP supremo Mayawati had termed the proposed Food Security Bill as impractical and an election stunt of the Congress.
"Your Chief Minister says MNREGS will not benefit anyone and she is right. None has benefitted from it. It is her ministers and the magical elephant (BSP symbol), eating money of the poor, have benefitted a lot," Rahul said.
It was regrettable when the matter was related to poor questions were generally asked from where the money would come for implementing the provision, he said.
Exhorting people to bring about a change in UP, Rahul said "in the past 22 years, there have been political parties which are talking about religion and caste and not about the poor and development.
"You elected BJP, Mulayam and Maywati and what did you get?" the Congress leader asked.
MNREGS had ensured employment in rural areas and the Right to Information Act had made it possible for a common man to get all inforamtion regarding ministers, MPs, MLAs and bureaucrats, he said.
"People are today talking about corruption because they are aware about it through the RTI which has been provided to them by the Congress."
The Congress leader appealed to the people to vote his party to power in the state and said in the next 10 years, they would not be able to recognise UP.
