SP unhappy with Salman Khurshid's elevation to MEA
Salman Khurshid was in the thick of a controversy two weeks ago over an alleged financial impropriety by his trust.

New Delhi: Key ally of the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government, the Samajwadi Party has expressed unhappiness over the elevation of Salman Khurshid to Ministry of External Affairs. Disapproving of the government's decision, Samajwadi Party leader Ramgopal Yadav said that tainted people should not be promoted.

Khurshid has been at the centre of criticism since activist-turned-politician Arvind Kejriwal in a press conference spoke about the alleged financial impropriety in the running of the minister's Zakir Husain Memorial Trust which provides equipment like wheelchairs and hearing aids to the disabled. The India Against Corruption also decribed him as "a mafia don" when Khurshid during a meeting in Farrukabad on October 16 said, "I was told work with a pen and made a law minister...I will work with a pen, but also with blood." Khurshid, however, has refuted all allegations saying he is ready to face any probe by any person.

After Khurshid took over as the External Affairs Minister on Sunday, when he was asked if his appointment was an indication of the confidence he enjoyed of the government and the party, the minister said, "It is for others to judge." He added that one cannot "surrender before those who just make allegations".
