New Delhi: The political war over commemorating national icons continues even after snubbing the PM and by not inviting the BJP or any of the NDA allies for the massive celebrations for Jawahar Lal Nehru's 125th birth anniversary.
While addressing the party workers and leaders on the occasion of 125th birth anniversary of former prime minister Jawahar Lal Nehru, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said, "On one hand they are cleaning the road for photo opportunities and on other hand they are spreading hate."
While the Congress has invited its allies and other parties, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and NDA leaders have been left out of the celebrations. Congress leader Digvijaya Singh said, "It is a Congress event then why should Modi be invited?"
Speaking to CNN-IBN, Singh said, "Narendra Modi has been ignoring the contribution of leaders from the Sangh. Now he is appropriating the legacy of Nehru."
Another Congress leader Mukul Wasnik said, "Those people who are totally opposed to the thinking of Jawahar Lal Nehru ji, those who have been working against the principle which he has stood for, I don't think that there is any valid reason for us to invite such people."
Meanwhile, reacting to Rahul Gandhi's photo-op comment on Prime Minister Modi, BJP leader Nalin Kohli said, "Rahul Gandhi's entire life has been photo opportunities as he travelling in trains, visiting Dalits' homes or tearing the ordinance."
BJP also attacked Rahul for his remarks relating to Hindi saying he has no right to insult Hindi.
"Congress party is trying to use Nehru's birth anniversary to play their own politics. On this occasion where they had to take the pledge of uniting the society and spreading brotherhood, they for their political gains have done the work of dividing society. It is the Congress which is playing the politics of hatred and not the BJP," party spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain said.
