Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan recorded his statement in a local court on Monday in connection with a defamation suit filed by him against Congress spokesperson over the latter’s charges levelled against him in transport recruitment scam.
Accompanied by his lawyers, CM Chouhan reached the court and headed straight to the courtroom.
Ajay Gupta, Congress leader KK Mishra’s lawyer, cornered CM Chouhan over a variety of issues such as the state government’s claims of Krishi Karman award given to MP, deteriorating law and order in Madhya Pradesh, especially crimes against women and kids besides growing farmers’ suicides and burgeoning debts on the state.
Gupta also came up with some pictures posing with some of the men named in transport scam, but CM Chouhan declined to identify them.
Chouhan told the court how he faced harassment over ‘baseless’ statements from Mishra and also cited several facts from his side.
Mishra, a Congress state spokesperson, had in 2014 held a press briefing and accused CM Shivraj and his kin of involvement in transport scam, allegedly helping several candidates getting recruited through unlawful means.
Mishra had categorically mentioned that a total of 19 people from Gondia, a place Chouhan’s wife Sadhna Singh belongs to, were recruited in the transport department.
Later on, CM Chouhan had filed a defamation suit against Mishra. The court posted the matter for hearing on April 7.
