Modi ready for challenge, will attend BCCI meet
IPL commissioner says he will chair the Governing Council meeting with a single-point agenda of hearing charges against him.

New Delhi: Lalit Modi, chairman and commissioner of the Indian Premier League (IPL), will attend Monday's Governing Council (GC) meeting with a single-point agenda of hearing charges against him and any other GC member, Modi's office said on Sunday afternoon.

The move has taken the influential GC members by surprise as they had readied plans to sack Modi on charges of alleged fiscal and other organisational irregularities in running the affairs of the IPL whose brand is valued at Rs.18,000 crore ($ 4.13 billion).

Sources tell CNN-IBN that, expelling Modi at a Governing Council meeting isn't possible according to the BCCI constitution. At the most, BCCI president can suspend Modi subject to clearance from a special Annual General Meeting. Otherwise, the GC needs to institute an inquiry committee before suspending Modi.

Modi however is confident that he 'can't be expelled' at the GC meeting.

"I will attend and chair the meeting of the GC as chairman and commissioner. I have issued the agenda to the GC," a defiant Lalit Modi's post reads in his Twitter account.
