Mumbai: 5.50 pm Uddhav Thackeray's personal secretary Milind Narvekar said that Shiv Sena has not called a bandh either in Maharashtra or in Mumbai on Monday.

5.20 pm Bal Thackeray's funeral procession reaches Shivaji Park. Almost three to four lakh people have gathered at Shivaji Park to be a part of the last rites of Bal Thackeray.
3.30 pm: Federation of Associations of Maharashtra (FAM) has called upon its constituents and the trading community to observe a bandh in Maharashtra on Monday as a mark of respect to Shiv Sena leader Bal Thackeray. In a statement, FAM has appealed to all its constituents to observe Monday as the 'Shradhanjali Day'.
"The state of Maharashtra and the trading community has lost a true friend and a well-wisher. Balasaheb was a great son of the soil and a true nationalist who minced no words to express his views," FAM president Mohan Gurnani said.
Various organisations of traders and dealers are affiliated to FAM, including Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC) and markets dealing in grains, sugar, dry fruits, metal, iron and steel and chemicals.
3.10 pm: A bandh-like situation prevailed in many parts of the city, Navi Mumbai and Thane in the wake of Balasaheb's death.
Markets were shut and taxis and autos off the streets. The authorities have advised Mumbaikars to take to the roads only in the case of an emergency.
2.20 pm: Except civic body's BEST buses and suburban railways, no transport is available for the commuters. "BEST and suburban railways are running additional buses and trains for people's convenience," a railway official said.
2.15 pm: About 20,000 police personnel are keeping a strict vigil in the metropolis to maintain law and order. "No violence has been reported in the city so far," a police officer said. "Nobody has been asked to shut their shops or malls. Everybody closed their shops voluntarily. Autorickshaws and taxis also voluntarily stopped plying on the roads," the officer added.
2.10 pm: Citizens found it difficult to get milk and vegetables. "We did not get milk this morning and even the vegetable market is shut. I have never come across such silence in the city in my life ever," said Rama Arolla (50), a housewife from BDD chawl in Worli area.
2.05 pm: Even as people thronged to catch a glimpse of the Sena patriarch and pay homage to him, shops, restaurants, hotels, theatres, malls and other commercial establishments remained shut and private vehicles, taxis, autorickshaws remained off the roads. Medical shops in the city as well as in neighbouring Thane were also closed.
2.01 pm: With Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray's body being taken to Shivaji Park in central Mumbai for last rites, the city wore a deserted look as taxis as autorickshaws and private vehicles remained off the roads and shops and other commercial establishments chose to down their shutters.
1.52 pm: As the procession reached a connecting road in Mahim, many Muslim women were seen silently weeping.
1.40 pm: Mumbai Police Commissioner Satyapal Singh has cancelled his daughter's wedding reception Sunday.
11.57 am: Jewellers across Mumbai will keep their establishments closed on Monday to mourn the death of Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray. "All retailers, wholesalers and jewellers will keep their establishments in Mumbai, including Zaveri Bazar, closed on Monday," said Kumar Jain, the vice president of Mumbai Bullion Association.
On a routine day, the retailers, wholesalers and bullion traders do a business of around Rs 250 crore. Jain said though the shops in Zaveri Bazar are usually shut on Sunday, they chose to close down on Monday also.
11.40 am: Scores of Shiv Sainiks arrived in the city from different parts of the state, largely from neighbouring Thane, Raigad, Pune, Aurangabad and Konkan region, which are the bastions of the saffron party, founded on June 19, 1966.
10.57 am: Leaves of all policemen have been cancelled.
10.02 am: State intelligence sources say that thousands of vehicles of supporters have left from various districts of Maharashtra.
9.37 am: Security has been beefed up at 'Matoshree' and Shivaji Park with vehicular traffic prohibited in and around the area. Shiv Sainiks have also formed a human chain to enable the procession pass smoothly.
9.26 am: Mumbai, which resembled a ghost city since Saturday evening, has remained calm and peaceful as news of Bal Thackeray's death began to sink in. All major roads and public places were deserted barring the odd security vehicles, some Shiv Sena activists moving around or a few delayed office-goers scampering home.
9.19 am: Mumbai police have made elaborate security arrangements by deploying 20,000 policemen, 15 companies of State Reserve Police and three companies of Rapid Action Force to deal with any situation.
Mumbai shuts down on Sunday to mourn the death of the man who ruled it for 40 years. The city of Mumbai has come to a standstill ahead of the cremation of Shiv Sena Chief Bal Thackeray who passed away on Saturday after a prolonged illness.
The road Matoshree in suburban east Bandra to Dadar in Central Mumbai has been cleared off traffic. Thackeray's body will be kept at Sena Bhawan till 9am for party leaders and workers to pay their last respects. The funeral procession will then head to Shivaji Park and remains there till 5 this evening. The cremation will take place at 6 pm. Tight security and elaborate crowd control measures are in place.
Meanwhile, no taxis and autos will ply on the Mumbai roads on Sunday. All the movie screenings have also been cancelled. Around 20,000 policemen stand guard along the funeral procession route from Matoshree to Shivaji Park. Cable services have also been blocked in the city.
Mumbai police has issued an advisory to control the traffic movement. Veer Savakar Road, Annie Besant Road and Mori Road, among others, are off bounds between 6 am and 10 pm tonight. No traffic will be allowed on these roads. Meanwhile, no parking will be allowed on Ranade Road and NC Kelkar Road among others.
