Thiruvananthapuram: CPI(M) General Secretary Prakash Karat has said that the Hindutva agendas remain intact in the BJP manifesto, like building the Ram Temple, implementation of uniform civil code and Article 370. The selection of Narendra Modi's s seat from Varanasi shows that the Hindutva agenda is in the forefront as in the days of Ram temple movement, the slogans used were after Ayodhya, Kashi and Mathura is left, he said.
He was speaking at a programme organised by the Thiruvananthapuram press club. He added that the Congress is going to record its worst ever performance and the only possibility to fight the BJP and its alliance is for the non-Congress secular parties to come together and provide an alternative government.
Karat said that they will definitely improve their position in Kerala and the two seats of Tripura are already in the Left kitty. In West Bengal, they are not able to get the numbers, not because they are not confident of improving, but because there is tremendous violence and possibilities of attacks on their voters, going to the polling booths. He said that they have brought this to the notice of the Election Commission.
On veteran leader VS Achuthanandan suddenly toeing with the party line, Karat said that Achuthanandan attended the secretariat and state committee meeting and found that he was in agreement with whatever has been discussed.
When asked about whether there is decimation in the party after he took over as party General Secretary, he said that in CPIM, unlike other parties, it is collective responsibility and though in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, they have fared worse than 2004 and in the assembly elections in between they fared very well.
