'Cong willing for post-poll alliance in Assam'
The ruling Congress in Assam on Monday said that it is open to a post-poll alliance with any like minded party.

Guwahati: The ruling Congress in Assam on Monday said that it is open to a post-poll alliance with any like minded party and the next chief minister will be decided by the party high command.

"Congress has no pre-poll alliance and we fought alone for all the 126 assembly constituencies. But we are open to post-poll alliance with any like minded party," Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president, Bhubaneswar Kalita told reporters in Guwahati on Monday.

Kalita refused to name any particular party but said "if Congress wins the poll, alliance with like minded parties is possible."

Replying to a question about his reported differences with Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi as he was projected in a section of the local media as the next chief minister, Kalita denied any rift between them.

"Gogoi is still the chief minister and who will be the next chief minister will be decided by the high command. There is no difference between Rajib Bhavan (party headquarter) and Dispur (secretariat)," he said.

Thanking the people who came in large numbers to vote, Kalita said the high turnout and huge attendance to party rallies during the campaigning indicated that Congress would come to power for the third consecutive term.

"Rallies in remote and even hilly areas have been largely attended which shows the popularity of Congress and the policies of the government," he said.

The huge participation of women and youths in the election process and during voting is a positive sign and proved that the democratic process is becoming stronger, he said.
