Hyderabad: Congress leader and Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council Deputy Chairman Mohd Jani today urged his party to provide sufficient seats for the Muslim community during the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections as they were supporting the party in the State.
Talking to newspersons, he urged the Congress to allocate 25 Assembly and three Lok Sabha seats to Muslims and one Lok Sabha seat for the Christian community in the coming elections.
Jani said 66 Assembly constituencies and 10 Lok Sabha constituencies in the State had Muslim population in majority and the Congress would be benefited if the party gave sufficient representation to them.
He said Muslims in the State were supporting the Congress as they appreciated the developmental and welfare schemes initiated by the party which had benefited the community.
He said, he had submitted to Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy and Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee President D Srinivas, a list of constituencies, where the community was in majority.
A list along with statistics would also be submitted to the All India Congress Committee President and United Progressive Alliance Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, he added.
