New Delhi: The cash-for-votes scam rocked Parliament on Thursday and both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha had to be adjourned as the Bharatiya Jjanata Party (BJP) pressed for the suspension of the Question Hour and immediate discussion on the issue. While the Lok Sabha was adjourned till noon, the Rajya Sabha was adjourned till 12:30 PM after uproar over the scam.
BJP MPs demanded that the scam and the arrest of Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh and two of its former MPs - Faggan Singh Kulaste and Mahavir Singh Bhagora - in the case should be discussed. BJP MPs also protested outside Parliament against LK Advani not being allowed to speak in the Lok Sabha.
National Democratic Alliance convenor and Janata Dal (United) MP Sharad Yadav had also given a notice for suspension of the Question Hour.
Faggan Singh Kulaste, Mahavir Singh Bhagora along with their colleague Ashok Argal had brandished wads of notes in the well of the Lok Sabha during the trust vote in July 2008. Argal is the Lok Sabha MP from the BJP representing Bhind constituency in Madhya Pradesh.
The party has taken strong exception to the arrests of its former MPs, stating that the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government, which was the prime beneficiary in the scam has not been touched or investigated.
