A man was seen in a video beating a woman and forcibly making her sit in a car on a busy road near Mangolpuri flyover in Delhi on Saturday. The vehicle and driver have been traced.

Police said that a team of personnel was sent to Gurugram’s Ratan Vihar where the car is from.

A video of the incident is doing the rounds on social media, showing a man in a white t-shirt grabbing the woman by the collar and pushing her violently into the car – a taxi with a yellow number plate.

The man thrashes the woman after pushing her inside the car and then goes onto sit on the front seat while another man in a black t-shirt gets inside the car and sits next to the woman.

Giving an update on the matter on Sunday, police said that two boys and a girl had booked a vehicle from Rohini to Vikaspuri through Uber, adding that a scuffle broke out between them on the way.

After the argument, the girl wanted to leave, police said.

“It is seen in the video that the boy forcibly pushes the girl inside the car. Further probe underway,” Delhi Police said.

Delhi Commission for Women Chairperson Swati Maliwal took cognisance of the matter and issued a notice to the Delhi Police. “Taking cognisance of this viral video of a woman being forced into a vehicle and beaten up, I am issuing a notice to the Delhi Police. The commission will ensure strict action against these people,” she said in a tweet.

Giving more information on the case, police said the incident was reported to the cops at around 10 pm on Sunday, soon after which investigation began.

“Taxi’s number flashed on [PCR] call, alert for a search operation in Delhi and neighbouring areas was made. Taxi was registered under name Shailender,” Harendra K. Singh, DCP Outer, said.

“Woman and her two friends had argument on personal issues which took form of physical assault. Woman got out of taxi but was forced to sit back in again by her friends. Since matter got heated, driver asked them to get off taxi. On basis of payment done via Paytm and number used to book car, they were contacted,” the DCP said.

He said that their statements have been recorded, adding that the woman’s statement has been recorded with a counsellor and medical assistance has also been provided. Upon her statement, further actions will be taken, DCP Singh said.
