Shah Rukh Khan's Batchmate From Barry John Theatre Recalls About Actor's Kind Nature: 'He Used To Help Everyone'
Deepika Deshpande shared that Shah Rukh Khan used to drop everyone in his car after rehearsals.

Shah Rukh Khan is one of the biggest stars of the country. The actor had a glorious run at the box office with Pathaan, Jawan and now Dunki. The actor has not only established himself as a man of impeccable craft but also as a kind and chivalrous human being. And while we have gotten testament to that time and again, Deepika Deshpande Amin who has studied with Shah Rukh Khan at Barry John’s theatre group recalled his nature.

Speaking with Rajshri Unplugged, the actress shared, “The energy he (SRK) had back then, is still there. People talk about his energy, his enthusiasm and how he is always saying ‘let’s do this, let’s do that.’ And he used to help everyone a lot. Whenever we used to do rehearsals, (in theatre) it would get late at night and Shah Rukh was the only person who had a car.”

She added, “Shah Rukh and Rituraj were the two people who had cars and they used to drop all the girls to their respective homes. It felt like a transport vehicle and everyone used to pile up. Shah Rukh had the Maruti van and he used to drop everyone one by one to their homes. Everyone used to help each other. We used to all go and buy costumes together.”

Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki had a non-holiday release and witnessed a good opening day at the box office. The film, which marks SRK’s third release of the year, is directed by Rajkumar Hirani and collected Rs 30 crores at the box office on release day. The film had recorded a Rs 15.41 crore collection during the advance bookings.

According to Sacnilk.com, on Friday, December 24, Dunki recorded a nationwide Hindi occupancy of 49.67%, contributing to a total collection of Rs ₹ 74.93 Cr net in India. The highest occupancy was seen in Kolkata, reaching 64.50%, while Kolkata followed closely at 61.50%. Mumbai trailed at 60%, while Chandigarh followed with a 59% occupancy rate. With this, it has crossed 100 Cr India net.

Although it did good business, Dunki could not beat the opening day records set by Shah Rukh previous two 2023 releases, Pathaan and Jawan. Pathaan recorded an opening day collection of Rs 57 crore whereas Jawan collected Rs 74.50 across all languages in India.

Dunki is the first movie where Shah Rukh Khan and Rajkumar Hirani have worked together. The story revolves around a group of friends wanting to move abroad, highlighting their challenges on the unique journey known as the Donkey Flight.

News18 Showsha has given the film a 4-star rating and praised Shah Rukh’s performance. “What keeps Dunki afloat is Shah Rukh Khan. After watching him turn into an action hero with Pathaan and Jawan, it’s refreshing to see him do something that allows him to flex his acting muscles. SRK brings a rare vulnerability, honesty, and earnest dignity to his character. His innocence and charm win us over with sheer heart and it is this heart that counts in a Hirani movie. This is one of the most significant films of his career,” the review read.
