Karan Johar On Fallout With Kajol, Kareena Kapoor: 'I Lost Out On Two Women...' | Exclusive
Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar shared that people added fuel to the fire during his rift with Kajol in 2016.

It is no news that Karan Johar shares a very special friendship with actors, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Kajol. But to say that their equation has only been a cakewalk is untrue. In the eighth season of Koffee Of Karan, the filmmaker recalled the time when he wasn’t on talking terms with Kajol, who he has directed in films like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhie Khushi, Kabhi Gham and My Name Is Khan.

Karan shared that people added fuel to the fire during his rift with Kajol in 2016. When Kajol was asked about it in the recent episode of KWK, she stated, “I am not going to get into this. I don’t want to discuss this topic anymore. It’s over. And it is done with and we are not rehashing this. You did it. You rehashed it once on national television. We are not redoing that.”

At a recent promotional event of Koffee With Karan 8, Karan opened up about the same to News18 Showsha. He candidly told us, “If you see Kajol with my kids, it is like she becomes one of them. And I am just so glad that I have this support system of all these friends. When you are a single parent, barring the fact that I am eternally grateful to the universe for my mother and she co-parents the children with me, you do need friends which I am also thankful for.”

Still regretful of the lost times, Karan added, “You know, with time you realise that relationships go through ups and downs. I never want to go back to the time when we weren’t speaking because I feel that those are the times I lost out on two women I absolutely loved. I am just glad that today we are even stronger as friends, as family.”

If anything, Karan believes that his rifts and long periods of animosity with Kareena and Kajol have strengthened his bond with them. “They are all there with all their heart and even though we went through a phase, I am just glad that we are even stronger today. And I think that what doesn’t break you, makes you stronger,” he said.

For the unverse, Karan and Kajol had a massive fallout when Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Shivaay clashed at the box office and Kamaal R Khan took to Twitter to share that he has been paid Rs 25 lakh to praise Karan’s film and diss Shivaay, which led to an alleged yelling match between Karan and Ajay.

Karan and Kareena also had a fall out for one-and-a-half years during the making of Kal Ho Na Ho. In his autobiography titled An Unsuitable Boy, Karan had written that he had approached Kareena for Kal Ho Naa Ho before casting Preity Zinta for the role of Naina Catherine Kapur. “My first problem was with Kareena. She asked for too much money, and we had some kind of fallout at that time. Mujhse Dosti Karoge! had just released, directed by Kunal Kohli. She said, ‘Aditya Chopra’s assistant Kunal Kohli has made this flop, so Karan Johar’s assistant, Nikhil Advani, is not to be trusted either’,” he added.

Speaking of his equation with Kareena today, Karan told us, “In fact, it is bizarre because Kareena and I never thought we would have children at the same time. I was an older parent because when I had kids I was 44 years old. And, I kept thinking in my heart that I am obviously going to be the oldest person in a PTA meeting or on a WhatsApp group or in a birthday party.”

He further continued, “That is so far from the truth because Kareena had Taimur two months prior to Yash and Roohi and Rani Mukerji had Adira a year before and I was like these are two of my closest friends and they both actually have kids around the same age.”
