Ahead of the official launch, fans in the US and UK were treated to special screenings, while Sony imposed a social media embargo until May 12. Now that the embargo has lifted, eager fans have flooded social media with their spoiler-free reviews, praising the film’s storyline and particularly Chris Pratt, who is the voice behind the iconic feline. While initial public reactions are positive, full reviews from critics are expected to be out on May 19.

Audiences are heaping praise on The Garfield Movie, with one user calling it “delightful and charming”. Chris Pratt’s portrayal of the iconic orange cat has been lauded, with fans declaring it the “best Garfield movie ever.”

Currently, The Garfield Movie is running in theatres across Mexico, Spain, Brazil, Italy, Peru and 13 other countries, which is roughly 35% of the international market. During its opening weekend, the star-studded film featuring Chris Pratt and Samuel L Jackson earned $22 million.
