Sushmita Sen is a proud single mother to two daughters. She is someone who never shies away from speaking her mind and breaking societal norms. In a new interview, the actress opened up about the same by revealing how she has approached the topic of sex with her kids.
During a candid interaction with Rhea Chakraborty on her maiden podcast Chapter 2, the Aarya actress was posed with a question around her approach towards explaining sex to Renee and Alisah. Sushmita Sen responded, “The conversation I’ve had with my girls is very different from what my mum had it me. The act of sex I didn’t have to explain. They were already P.hd’s. All of them are. My younger one is excellent in Biology.”
She continued, “The only thing that I have repeatedly spoken about is if somebody tells you this is not the right time, this is not the right thing, I am not interested in discussing that with you. Because that’s between you and your friends, you’ll figure that out. Equate sex with respect in your life. You can explore yourself and your desires. There’s no problem in that. But at the end of it, it should not make you feel bad. That is very important. And don’t do it because someone told you there is peer pressure, there are friends. You do it because you want it. Don’t do something that you don’t want to, then you’ll already be on the wrong path. So whenever you are ready, do it. But don’t lie to me.”
Last month, Sushmita Sen opened up about being a single mother and shared that she wants to give herself a pat on her back for bringing up the kids with a lot of love.
While speaking to Bombay Times, she shared, “I want to give myself a pat on my back as a mother everyday. That’s self-love. I am not someone who has to be told ki aap kitni achchi maa hai. I already know that (smiles)! Being a parent was a different experience at different age groups. It was challenging throughout because I have done it alone.”
She added, “And so, the perception that ‘Oh! She is Sushmita Sen, and she can do it,’ is not true. It is harder to be me and do it. It has been a very gratifying experience. I often say that I am as old as my children, so it is not like I know more than them; I am learning everyday with them.”
When asked about how motherhood changed her, she further added, “Being a mother has given me a sense of purpose. It’s far greater than being a creative artiste and far greater than anything else I have done in my life. It gives me this feeling that something will live on as love after you are done and dusted.”
On the other hand, Suhsmita Sen’s romantic relationships have included a stint with actor Randeep Hooda from 2004 to 2006 and a relationship with model Rohman Shawl from 2018 to 2021, with recent speculations of a rekindling based on public appearances. In July 2022, her relationship with businessman and IPL founder Lalit Modi became public. In a 2023 interview with Mid-Day, she reflected on her brief connection with Modi, dismissing the fleeting nature of the relationship and the derogatory labels some had ascribed to her following Modi’s public acknowledgment of their relationship on social media, where he shared images of their vacations together.
Meanwhile, Sushmita recently wowed audiences with her strong performance in Aarya Season 3 Part 1. In the show, she plays a tough woman who protects her family from crime. The first season was nominated for ‘Best Drama’ at the International Emmy Awards.
