It’s been nearly nine years since the release of the original Baahubali film, yet its grandeur and beauty remain vivid in the memories of many. Baahubali marked a significant milestone in Indian cinema. It introduced audiences to a scale of filmmaking previously unseen in the country. This epic saga was later succeeded by its sequel, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, released in 2017
Central to the allure of Baahubali is the mystical kingdom of Mahishmati, where much of the film’s story unfolds. This kingdom, depicted in the movie, rivalled the grandeur of ancient Rome’s Coliseum, boasting magnificent temples, a grand royal palace and lush green forests teeming with wildlife.
For those who will be impressed by the splendour of Mahishmati, a visit to the Anantapur district headquarters in Andhra Pradesh offers a chance to step back in time and immerse oneself in the kingdom’s grandeur. Organisers of an exhibition in Anantapur have meticulously recreated the Mahishmati kingdom, evoking nostalgia among fans of the Baahubali films.
The exhibition features towering structures and forts reminiscent of Mahishmati, along with lifelike statues of beloved characters from the films, including Mahendra Baahubali, Amarendra Baahubali, Bhallal Deva, Kattappa, Sivagami Devi and the Kalakeya chief. Additionally, key scenes from the movies, such as the iconic waterfall jump and pivotal battle sequences, have been faithfully recreated for visitors to experience firsthand.
In addition to the immersive recreations, the exhibition offers food courts and shopping stalls, enhancing the overall experience for attendees. One organiser mentioned, “We have fixed Rs 80 as the entry fee for every visitor above five years of age and we are not charging any fee from children below five years of age.”
The exhibition is an example of the enduring legacy of the Baahubali franchise, providing fans with an opportunity to relive their favourite moments from the epic saga and marvel at the intricate craftsmanship that brings the fantastical world of Mahishmati to life.
